Schneider receives Supply & Demand Chain Executive’s 2021 Top Supply Chain Project Award
The award showcases an example of Schneider’s innovative supply chain modeling capabilities that drive success for its customers.
GREEN BAY, Wis. (June 17, 2021) – Schneider (NYSE: SNDR), a premier provider of trucking, intermodal and logistics services, was selected by Supply & Demand Chain Executive as a recipient of the Top Supply Chain Projects Award for 2021. The award spotlights a successful and innovative transformation project from Schneider supply chain engineers that delivered bottom-line value to their customer and prepared the customer’s supply chain for success when crisis hit.
Before COVID-19 reached the United States, Schneider was commissioned by a large U.S. agriculture distributor to conduct a strategic supply chain analysis to recommend the best warehouse footprint to support their growth. When an employee at the distributor’s mountain-region facility contracted the virus, the facility needed to shut down immediately for two weeks per CDC guidelines. In order to maintain the distributor’s quality of service and keep disruptions at a minimum, a solution was needed quickly.
Within three hours, Schneider’s engineering team was able to model and deliver a scenario that reduced the outbound cost increase by 55 percent without any additional increase to transit time. Schneider then used the model outputs to predict volume by facility, which allowed for better staff and labor planning for the open warehouses. To top it off, Schneider found additional carrier capacity to cover the new shipping lanes, ensuring everything shipped on time to operationalize the results from the network optimization model.
“The pandemic caused many unforeseen disruptions to the supply chain and being prepared for any scenario will strengthen your supply chain’s resilience,” said Mike Kukiela, senior vice president, Schneider. “The success of this project proves that network optimization models help businesses manage through disruptive events and provide the support needed to ensure agility when we need it most.”
By working with Schneider’s supply chain engineers, the distributor was able to keep customers satisfied – weathering disruptions in its supply chain, avoiding costs and seeing a near-immediate return on investment.
“The supply chain industry has been challenged with a host of disruptions over the last year, yet the winners on this list continued to re-tool and innovate,” says Marina Mayer, editor, Supply & Demand Chain Executive and Food Logistics. “These top supply chain projects reflect the industry’s strength and resilience to work better, smarter and more efficiently in the years ahead.”
